Poetic?

Hi,

I keep seeing comments that say some use of English is poetic on the forum. So what is poetic English? Do novelists, journalists and such try to write English as poetically as possible?

Thanks in advance

Hi Christanford; Poetry is hard to define, but I would say that poetry is writing that is "crafted" to be a pleasure to listen to. It employs devices such as rhythm, alliteration, simile and metaphor, shows a careful choice of words, and embodies a theme or idea that touches the imagination or intellect. Journalism is purposeful writing to convey the facts and circumstances of events.
