Which one is correct " reported to duty " vs "reported for duty"

I came upon the following sentence from today's NY times about Obama's impending choice for his vice preisdent candidate.

The staff members of the vice-presidential team reported to duty in Chicago two weeks ago, not knowing who they would ultimately be working for.

I wonder about if the underlined "reported to duty" should be made to read llike "reported for duty in Chicago".

Any suggestions or guides are much appreciated.
