Question

1)I want to know when to use the word ' and' and when to use 'as well as '.
Could you give me some examples that would bring out the difference between them.
2)Also, i read in my sat prep book that constructions like the following seem to make plural(compound) subjects but actually don't.

-------- as well as--------
--------~~in addition to~~----

could you give me more such constructions?

So, do their translations to your native language differ? I am asking that because in my language I have exact analogs for both "and" and "as well as", so my understanding of them is "native" and therefore hard to explain.

here's one of the explanations I found in the internet:

«Used to add something to a list of things or actions»

Well, "and" does the same, but in a different way. Things connected with "and" have equal roles in the sentence (and you can change their order without a serious change of the meaning), whilst "as well as" adds elements to a list in an asymmetrical way so words that go after "as well as" cannot be placed before this phrase, and vice versa, because "as well as" points to additional, secondary character of the words that follow.

Ex.: Eleven will do as well as any other time;

The main statement is that eleven is a suitable time, and in in addition it is said that this time is as good as any other. And, of course, you can't interchange them and say: "Any time will do as well as eleven."

To me, they don't even seem to. And of course they don't multiplify the number of subjects. However, "and" does.
