In writing task 1, when there are 2 lines, (just for example): the number of arrests in Vietnam had an upward trend, while the figure for Singapore had a downward trend. Can I rewrite: The number of arrests in Vietnam had an upward trend, while the opposite was true for the figure for Singapore?.

(One more question: did I use the phrase "figure for" in the right way?)
