My essay:



Prior to 1997, it is a far off dream that mainland students come to Hong Kong for studying. However, at present, local universities admit a small number of mainland students into their undergraduate programs. It is said that it is a good way to attract motherland talents to Hong Kong while others assert that local students may have to face fiercer competition for a place in local universities.



Without doubt, admitting non-local students into our universities will surely make our students facing fiercer competition. The fact that mainland students are working so hard that they put a lot of effort into studying in order to pursue a better job in the future, the places in local universities are inevitably taken by some of them. Some of our students will not be promoted to higher education due to this reason. Moreover, it is wondered that after the non-local students graduated, whether or not they will work in Hong Kong. If they are not going to work in Hong Kong, so that we may lose a lot of money in them because they will not bring benefit to Hong Kong. If they are going to work in Hong Kong, it means that some of our jobs will be taken by them so that other local students can not get the jobs.



However, every coin has two sides. In the past, studying is not taken for granted so our students do be hard working. As time goes by, the studying attitude of our students has been dropping obviously. They take studying for granted so they don’t put effort into it. Admitting non-local students into our universities will definitely make our students to improve their attitude towards studying so that they can acknowledge they need to work hard for a place in universities. What is more, admitting students coming from different countries helps to consolidate Hong Kong’s culture edge because people will think Hong Kong is a melting pot of eastern and western culture.



As pursuing a place in universities is no longer an easy work. The sixth form students should work hard in future. They should concentrate on studying so they should put less time in extra-curricular activities. Because fantastic activities outside schools make students cannot focus on studying. A-level exam is the last mission for them to be promoted into universities. It is time for them to prepare.


All in all, it is sure that admitting non-local students into universities will bring pros and cons to Hong Kong. In order to get a place in universities, our sixth formers should equip well now.
