1) Father brought 10 lit of drinking water from a nearby tubewell. Mother used 1/5 of water for cooking and 1/4 part was used for drinking purpose. Let us find how many liters of water is left?
Answer – 6 liters

Total amount of drinking water = 10 litres
Mother used 1/5 part of water for cooking purpose.
:.1/5 part of 10 lit
= 2 lit
Now, the amount of remaining water = (10-2) lit
= 8 lit
Again, 1/4 part of the remaining water was used for drinking purpose.
:. 1/4 part of the remaining water
= 1/4 part*8 lit
= 2 lit
Therefore, the required amount of water is left = (8-2) lit
= 6 lit

2) After retirement, Anil babu donated 1/4 part of his property to local library, 1/6 part of the remaining property was given to his wife and rest was divided equally among his two sons. Let us calculate to find what part of his property was given to his wife and each of two sons?
Answer - 1/8 and 5/16

Let the total property = 1 part
Anil babu donated 1/4 part of his property to local library.
Remaining property = (1-1/4) part
=3/4 part
Again, he was given 1/6 part of the remaining property to his wife.
:. 1/6 part of the remaining property
= 1/6*3/4 part
=1/8 part of the property was given to his wife.
Now, the rest of the property = (3/4-1/8) part
= 5/8 part
Again, he was divided 5/8 part of his property equally among his two sons.
Now, each son got = 5/8÷2 part
= 5/16 part of his property.
