PhD Motivation Letter

"Dear Members of the Selection Committee,

I am writing this motivation letter as part of my application procedure to the XXX program. I am highly interested in gaining expertise in the advanced biomedical researches which this PhD program offers. I recently completed a MSc focus on cell and tissue engineering in the XXX at XXX. I believe my combination of technical knowledge, analytical skills and international study experience make me a valuable candidate for the XXX program.

Currently I am doing a traineeship at XXX in XXX, I am working in the Clinical Pharmacology Modelling and Simulation (CPMS) department. My project, under the supervision of Doctor XXX, is part of the XXX consortium, specifically my task is to develop a tool able to predict the outcome of a tuberculosis treatment. Through this I am directly applying PK/PD modelling, systems biology and statistical techniques implemented using NONMEM and R Studio.

During my studies, I have delivered projects on Data Mining classification and prediction problems and Bioinformatics. Through this I am familiar with genome annotation and public genetics databases. Moreover, I developed statistical and analytical abilities programming with bioinformatics applications in Perl and gained experience running pipelines in a High Performance Computing environment. In February 2014, I have spent six months at the XXX under the Erasmus exchange program. During this period I have started my thesis at XXX, through this had the opportunity to confront myself in an international environment. Furthermore, I learned how to work in team, overcome challenges, and communicate ideas more eloquently.

To fulfill my career goal, I intend to pursue my study with the PhD program best fit for me. I want to study at XXX for the advanced research on infectious diseases investigated which is fascinating me during my internship.
