Hello!I am applying for a PhD position in the field of public health. Following is my cover letter. Can somebody please help me and give some suggestions on the cover letter? You seem to focus on 'I can do the work'. Have you considered focusing more on why you want this position?

A lot of theses details may be better left in your CV.
Are you attaching your CV? A cover letter is called a cover letter because it tels the reader that something is attached or enclosed..

What is there in your cover letter that will make you seem better than the other applicants? I'm sure they will all be well qualified.

I am interested in epidemiology and public health. I think population health is correlated with policies and most of the time policies are based on the research results. There is a national health insurance in Taiwan which is similar to the social health insurance system in Sweden. Furthermore, there are also some similarities between Taiwan and Sweden. For example, the life expectancy in both countries is around 80 years and people in both countries have a similar consuming pattern in seafood, alcohol, salt, and sugar. Nowadays, except for genetic expression and medication, plenty of diseases have been proved that they are correlated with lifestyle including food consuming. Since there are some similarities, I wonder the prevalence and risk factors for diseases are similar to each other. These results can be for further research such as health policies, health system, and medication.

I am confident that my skills, epidemiology background and knowledge regarding diseases and potential risk factors would help me with my PhD research in ---------- in Sweden. Isn't the term 'a PhD candidate'?

Shouldn't you state clearly and immediately the field you want to work in, and what you want to research in that field? I don't get a clear picture of this from your letter.

In Sweden, the PhD position is considered more likely as a job. Once they have a clear goal and research project, then they open this position for application. This is the reason that I mentioned what I can do rather than which kind of research I want to do in my cover letter.
