In prison there was a guard on the tower. When he saw that some prisoners down on the courtyard started to quarrel with each other he: stared down at them, his hands perched on the trigger guard of the AK.
I would say he had his fingers perched on the trigger guard not hands?
Or maybe I just don't understand something here?
By the way: Is there any difference between a tower walk and just a tower in prison?
For example the guy eyed the position of each tower walk.
I take it to mean he just had a look at the towers.

I've just found that the word "perch" can mean "placed" or maybe "put".
So I understand that the guard put/placed his hands on the trigger guard of his gun.
However it still sounds strange to me. I think the trigger guard is too small to put both hands on it?
