Pepper: It's starting to show

HI teachers,We say food gone bad, gone stale, was spoiled.  What's the transition getting there?  I once heard "it's starting to show" when it was referred to a pepper from a fridge, if I'm mistaken.Would you tell me if "show" mean?ThanksTN

I haven't heard "it's starting to show" referring to bad food.

I have heard "it's starting to spoil"

"it's starting to go bad"

"it's starting to go mouldy"

If food goes bad, it usually means it is unfit to eat. ie it has gone rotten.

If food has gone stale, it does not mean it is unfit to eat. Like bread goes stale, it does not mean it has gone bad, it has just dried up a bit. ie not fresh.

If food has spoiled, (rather than "dinner has spoiled" which means either something went wrong with the cooking or it has been left waiting after it was ready and now is not as good as it was), so if food has spoiled it usually means something similar to going bad, maybe to not the same degree.
