Please can you tell me if 'onto' is suppose to be one word or two in the following sentences:
I have a walking stick that I hold onto/on to for support. I support myself by holding onto/on to my walking stick.

hellenaaa one word or two Both are used. "on to" occurs slightly more often than "onto", but neither is wrong in my opinion. CJ
