Do I have to talk about his body or just on the right side would suffice?

I have to drop the food in the tank on the right side of the fishes body. He only has one eye. If I drop the food on the left side of his body, it won't be able to see it until it turns around.

Normally I would call a fish 'it' rather than 'he'. But since you also use 'it' to refer to the food, you can call the fish 'he'.
