Not so much x as it is y
a) It's not so much that I hate you, but that I am envious of you.
b) It's not that I hate you so much as it is that I am envious of you.
c) It's not so much anger as (it is) envy.
d) It's not anger so much as (it is) envy.
e) It wasn't so much that it was a cookbook for one, but that it was a microwave cookbook for one, that made it sad.
1) Can 'so much' be used before or after a noun to the same effect?
2) Is it preferable to write a and e thus?
