Nokkon

Hello,

There is this girl who's on the way with her dad to meet a friend. And they talk about what time he will pick her up while she is leaving the car.

Dad: "Nine o'clock?"
Sarah: "On the dot. I'm always early. It's you who's late."
Dad: "As if. Nokkon, little lady."
Sarah: "Nokkon, Dad."

What does Nokkon mean?

Thanks in advance,
Dilan.

Hi,

Where did you find this dialogue?

Are you sure it was spelled '.Nokkon', and not eg 'Knock on'?

Yes I am sure. This is from the book "Straw Men" by Michael Marshall, so it is written like that. I searched it on Google but couldn't find anything.

Hi,

I have no idea what this means.

I wonder if it is some kind of reference to the idiom, ''Knock on wood'?

Hello again,

I don't think so but couldn't come with a better idea neither.

Thank you anyway,

Dilan.

Could it be some sort of private language between the father and daughter that may have been introduced earlier in the book? Something like a special saying invented and agreed upon the two that has significance for them?
My dad and I had a couple of words like that. They were just for us.

Unfortunately it is not like that either. I have been reading it quite carefully and saw nothing like this, I even looked for it now once again but nothing.

I thought that it may refer to a special conversation from a movie or show etc. Could it be?

Heh. I jumped online, as I’ve just read the same section of The Straw Men, and this page was in the search results. I suspect we’re not about to find an answer.

Hi

I think some of the answers below are close to being right. If you carry on reading, there is indeed a character called Nokkon Wud ...

- Mr Wud was something that she and her father had invented. At least, they thought they'd invented him.

He is explained in some detail further on in the story.
