Military Introductions?
Hi everyone, I was wondering if someone could help me with a question on military introductions.
If, for example, someone belonged to, say, the 11th (North Devonshire) Regiment of Foot, how would he identify himself if, say, an officer asked him which regiment he was in?
Joe Bloggs, 11th Infantry
Or -- Joe Bloggs, 11th Regiment of Foot
Or -- Joe Bloggs, North Devonshire Infantry
Or something else?
My question here is specifically for light infantry units that aren't Rifles or Fusiliers, as I've heard people say things like, Richard Sharpe, 95th Rifles. etc.
Anyway, a bit random, but any help would be sincerely appreciated

I would think that in the days when regiments were numbered he would have said he was from the 11th of Foot, or just the 11th Foot.
When they were named rather than numbered, he would have referred to them as the Devonshire Regiment, or just the Devonshires (they weren't actually named the North Devonshires).
