Meaning of an idiom

Hi,

What does an idiom "do sth justice" mean?
I've checked everywhere but I still don't get it right,I guess.
Could you explain it,please?

By the way, what do you think is the best way to learn idioms? There are so many idioms in English that it kinda scares me that I should know as many of them as possible. The second question is,how should I know which ones are really used and which are not?

Thank you!
