Mark on stressed syllable
I've been checking pronunciations on some words. I'm watching 2 dictionaries. Both have audio files but seem to have different marks on syllables.
* Dissect /da?'sekt/ /d?-/
* Dissect d?|sekt
I'm not sure whether /di/ has a stress or /sek/ has a stress.
Q1) Are d?| or da?' indicating stressed syllables? Are ' or | marks for the stressed? \
Q2) /da?'sekt/, What do ' or | mean? stressing for ? or s?
Q3) Definitely /|def?n?tli/, are syllables being appeared in the vowels, not the consonants in words? Right?

The verb dissect has two pronunciations. Both have the stress on the second syllable, but one has the short i sound; the other has the long i sound in the first syllable. r=66
