Lose and forget?

One of the textbooks I use says that you can’t use “forget” in the following sentence. But would you agree with that?

You will never forget/lose the fond memories of spending time with your friends as a child.

Does it say why? I assume it's the combination of 'forget' with 'memories'.

No. You can easily find lots of examples of "forget ... memories" online which sound completely natural. Fewer examples of "lose ... memories" are found, and, unlike those with "forget", those with "lose" often touch on the subjects of aging, trauma, or brain malfunctions.

People sometimes forget good memories.
Old memories take a long time to forget.
You can't forget your memories if you love them.
Can people be guided to forget unwanted memories?
I wish I could forget most of my childhood memories.
I will never forget the wonderful memories of performing with my sister Laura.
Don't forget the memories, but concentrate on stuff that is now, in the present, not three weeks ago.
