Looking for a verb
I couldn't find a single English verb in any dictionary, which expresses 'getting into a state when you are just staring ahead without seeing anything'. It is not caused by illness, sleepiness, tiredness but rather the lack of interest of what you are doing or you ought to do. Your mind goes elsewhere or just nowhere. It's typical in relaxing, but rather dangerous in driving. For those who perhaps know Hungarian, the H. verb is 'elbambul'. Please help.

"to daydream" is the only verb I can think of. The nouns "stupor" and "trance" seem conceptually related, however.

My old romance novels used the phrase "in a brown study." I have never heard or seen that phrase outside of those books, so I have no idea if it was ever used or if it's used elsewhere.
