Big giants like Lehman brothers, Merrill Lynch tumbled like a pack of cards overnight. Till now WMD has engulfed hundreds of thousands of jobs and it is spewing venom – recession all over the globe. All countries are bombarding it with stimulus packages, bailout plans but unable to contain it.

(actually, Merrill Lynch was purchased, and is still very much in operation) Until now WMD has (I would make the verb plural, since you have defined the subject as plural above. However, sometimes a bare acronym is considered singular) engulfed hundreds of thousands of jobs and it is (see prior comment. Also the tense is better if it agrees with the present perfect. verb tense in the first clause - has been spewing) spewing venom – recession all over the globe.
