This is an essay on the topic Appearances are Deceptive, in relation to Nicola and Jacopo, from "THE TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA, by A.J.Cronin".
Appearances are Deceptive
One would not believe me, if I told him about Nicola and Jacopo, because today we live in a world where appearance is the basis on which we assess people. But in reality, appearances are deceptive. Who would have thought that the shabby little boys of Verona were potential business magnets? They looked like poor rags of the streets, but actually earned quite a bit, enough to pay one week's charge for their sister's treatment for Tuberculosis of the Spine. They were hard-working, innocent and possessed huge amounts of will power, which many of those who dress well and 'appear' gentlemanly lack. So, I conclude by stating that those who look 'dirty' outside, may be pure of heart inside. Nicola and Jacopo, who take themselves to the brink of disappearance for the treatment of their sister, are real gentlemen
