Is the "army to a massacre" part correct?

To lead (someone) to or into is usual. No problem. 'into' sounds better to me because the massacre wasn't already there beforehand.

'into' sounds better to me because the massacre wasn't already there beforehand. In other words, it's not as if he had led them to Chicago.
