I'd use the singular verb, treating "the department" as a singular entity. It invites.

While it's true that "PixelYard" is another separate single entity, the grammar in this case does not give us a compound subject. (I'd call "along with PixelYard" an appositive.)

The department AND Pixel Yard invite you to a demonstration. (This is a compound subject. "And Pixel Yard" is not set off by commas.)

John, together with his family, wishes you a merry Christmas. (Other opinion invited!)

Another approach would be to treat "the department" as a collective, comprising a group of people.
The group invites you. The group invite you. Both are correct.

My family wish/wishes you a merry Christmas!
