(2)"Your finishing [of] your homework is a very important step."
(3)"The Party's convening [of] a Congress last September was a wrong move."
(4)"The Party's placing [of] supporters in important government positions is nothing but shameless horse-trading."
I am sure that there are better ways to phrase these sentences, but strictly on grammatical grounds: do they work, and is the [of] necessary in sentences 2-4? Thank you so much.

Strictly speaking, no, but you'll probably see it less in constructions like (2), where you only have a single personal pronoun-determiner, and you'll see it more in more complex constructions like (3) and (4).
