Hi. I have a question.

an/a increasing/growing stream of people.

Are one to be preferred over the other or are they complete interchangeable in this sentence?

An increasing...

Use "a" before a consonant sound and "an" before a vowel sound. We're talking about pronunciation here. Note the following correct examples:

an apple

an egg

a house

an hour (because we don't pronounce the h)

a university (because the first sound is the consonant sound of the letter y)

Using "a" and "an" is a matter of pronunciation ba
