Or do you mean typing the data about the software, which would be no. 1 ? No. 2 makes no sense at all to me.

I mean that for example, if you are working as a data entry officer.

You need to use a software , eg excel or MYOB to type the information in there so it can be retrieved next time when you go into the software again.

In this kinda situation, should I use in or on then?

I work in computers, and I hear people use both. But I prefer to say they are using the software. So I would say:

"I am entering data using the software."

i think tim is right,, i ve been using the same structure- "..using software.."

I think it would depend on the software, e.g.

1. I'm entering the data in Excel.

1a. I'm inputting the data into an Excel spreadsheet.

2. I'm collecting the data in a Word document.

2a. I'm entering the data into tables in Word.

3. I'm entering the data into an Access database.

3a. I'm adding the data to an Access database.
