The pie charts detail the amount of enery capacity from four different sources in the year 2015, with the forecast in 2040. These energies are fossil fuels, wind, nuclear, solar and other renewables, which is measured in gigawatts (GW).

Overall, fossil fuels made up the most proportion of energy capacity in the given period, while the lowest amount of energy capacity was represented by solar. The amount of fossil fuel usage is forecast to decrease, whereas it is the opposite for solar. Furthermore, the total capacity of worldwide energy is expected to rise significantly.

In 2015, just over one third of energy capacity was dominated by fossil fuels, followed by other renewables at the second place, which accounted for almost a quarter. However, renewable energies such as wind, nuclear and solar only accounted for approximately 10% of energy capacity.

Regarding the prediction, the total energy capacity in 2015 was 6.688 GW, but is predicted to almost doubled by the year 2040. Energy sourced by solar and wind is expected to grow considerably to 18% and 12% respectively. Contrary to that, fossil fuels is forecast to decline to 44%, and the remaining energy sources will remain constant for 25 years.
