The superlative is often used for a comparison between two persons, items, etc [3a], though this is avoided in careful usage where the comparative [3] is preferred:
He is the younger (of the two brothers). [3]
He is the youngest (of the two brothers). [3a]
I feel that there should be a comma after usage.
Am I right?

Dear Teo, It is my opinion that you are correct. We may otherwise suppose that careful usage may exist where the comparative is not preferred. It is humorous that the writer is careless in a discussion of «careful usage», no?
