Iambic Pentameter - Major Tom

After reading Chaucer, our teacher has told us to write our own 10 couplet poem following iambic pentameter about a person, like Chaucer did. I wrote about Major Tom from David Bowie's song Space Oddity, but I just want to make sure I got the form down. I'm afraid I may have not done it correctly in some spots, so any help is greatly appreciated, I know you guys probably get topics like this everyday.

Major Tom

Transmissions gone, our spaceman floats through dark
The Major Tom in his celestial ark.

The ground control is waiting for reply
Have they propelled man into space to die?

Our rocket man in panic, staring back at Earth
He soon discovers what his life is worth.

Disordered strange thoughts pace themselves throughout
His mind. No man can hear his helpless shout.

Outside the capsule, floating through a new
Frontier. He studies Earth’s most brilliant hue.

Euphoric whimsy from galactic strides
Space sheds romance not offered by all brides.

Tom, stuck in darkness, worries no bit more
Instead enjoys deep space’s griping lure.

An errored system blessed the Major with
His freedom, once believed to be a myth.

Return was pointless now with what was gained.
Becoming self-aware, no longer feigned

Today the people wonder what became
Of spaceman Major Tom, forever famed.
