I would like to throw you a thanksgiving party

You have done so much for me. I would like to throw you a thanksgiving party before I depart for the UK for higher studies.

The "thanksgiving party" above has nothing to do with the Thanksgiving Day. I wanted to know if this expression serves the purpose or you could think of something better. Please let me know. Thanks.

The word 'thanksgiving' is very much asociated with the Thanksgiving holiday, so don't use it in the way you have.

'Throw you a party' is , to me, rather an old-fashioned expression. I suggest this.
