To write a PHP file, you need to write a file without formatting , so as pure as possible. So... you could simply use the Windows notepad and if you want an automatic colourisation to help you in making a good code...

I would like to suggest Dream viewer or Netbeans can be used as text editor. I think these are using by profeesional progreammers. You can also start with this.
