Each of those two pairs consists of expressions which are nearly the same in usage.

We often use "hurry up" when there is no other adverb or prepositional phrase of direction after "hurry", so there's "hurry toward something", "hurry away from something", "hurry back", "hurry into the house", and so on, but if there is no phrase like that, we can add "up" optionally, giving "hurry" or "hurry up". It's more informal with "up".

We urged them to hurry (up). (Optional "up".)
If you hurry (up), you can get there before they close. (Optional "up".)
The turtle babies crawl out and hurry toward the ocean. (No "up".)
The kids always hurry back from school around 3 o'clock. (No "up".)
Half a dozen bearded men hurried into the house previously identified as a Taliban headquarters. (No "up".)

"up" is optional after "wake" when you wake someone else, but it's almost always used when someone just becomes awake on their own.

It's time for Frank to go to work, so we had better wake him (up).
She used to wake up every morning feeling sick.
Someone tried to wake her (up) by putting her in cold water, but that did not work.
Inner clocks tell people when to wake up.
The dog learned to wake the patient (up) whenever the phone rang.
