How to say it in English no. x3

Hello there again,

Here's the next situation I'd like to be able to describe.

Two people are travelling in a remote area of country XYZ and because it's a remote area it's hard to get from point A to point B to point C. On the way a man offers them a ride for some amount of money. They negotiate the fare but he doesn't budge. They meet another man who offers them a ride for free. They get home and in the evening discuss the situation. Should they say:

If that man had agreed to lower the fare/price he would have got 2 customers, us. Because he hadn't/didn't he had to leave empty-handed.

or

If that man had accepted our price/fare he would have got 2 customers, us. Because he hadn't/didn't he had to leave empty-handed.

or

If he accepted our proposal he would have got 2 customers.
