how to conjugate while collective noun is used as subject in English sentences
sometimes, i don't know using the type of "be"verb and general verb in particular sentences, such as "My family uses incandescent light bulbs in our lamps." vs Our family are all sick with the measles. subjects are same "family" but one is used "uses" and the other is used "are" . is there any rules in using "the types of Verbs for the collective noun"? especially , next words - family, police , our member, or so.. i'm not English native speaker .so my question has wrong expression. i wish u could answer it by more easiler words. my email (removed by moderator; please leave it in your profile) .

Hi, If you care about verb / subject agreement, you should be paying attention to capitalization and not use the chatroom style words. Family- is considered a singular noun in the US, while "police" is a always plural.
