How to answer this 11?
Hi,
When you are asked of questions like this, how would you answer them? Would they all be answered without the definite artices which would normally accomapany them in normal sentential situations?
1. Q: As far as you know, which river is the longest river in the United States?
A: Misssissippi river Or the Mississippi river
Usually, it is stated like this if you are making a general statement of a sort:
The Mississippi river is the longest river in the United States.
2. How about this?
Q: As far as you know, which country has the most abundant natural resouces?
I think the answer might be "The United States."
Q1: What is the name of the country that has the most abundant natural resources?
I think the answer is still "The United States."
So the fact seems that "the United States" never changes even if, the question part has used 'the' in the question; on the other hand, "the Mississippi river" does seem to change when 'the' has been used in the question part. Why is that?
