Hello there! Would you please help me ?
Given the following sentences found on the internet:
(1) How good a lawyer are they?
(2) How good teachers are they compared to other PUAs?
The problem is: are both acceptable phrase structures?
Moreover, if so, would you also please tell me what would be the nuances /meanings of sentences as
(a) How good a lawyer are they?
(b) How good lawyers are they?

The plurals sound terribly wrong and should be recast: How good a lawyer/teacher is she? But : How good are they as lawyers? There are no nuances involved.
