Hope that they (will) come to accept ~

Question

Compbell also decide to launch seventeen varieties of soup in the Chinese of province of Guangdong. The Chinese eat more soup in a few weeks than most Americans eat in a year; they just aren't used to eating canned varieties. Company executives hope that as the Chinese adopt a faster-paced, more westernized lifestyle, they will come to accept the convenience of canned soup.

I have been taught in "that" clause introduced by "hope," I can use the present tense in lieu of the future tense.
So I'd like to know if I can replace "will come" with "come."

No, that wouldn't work.

Think of it in terms of the first conditional:
"As/If the Chinese adopt ... etc., they will come to accept ... etc."

Then I'd like to know if were not for the clause, "as the Chinese adopt a faster-paced, more westernized lifestyle," I could use "come," not "will come."
