People that do not support homework argue that homework is not necessary and does not help students. While this may be true for younger students, older students benefit greatly from homework. Older students hold more responsibility in their schoolwork than those of a lower grade. Furthermore, teachers assign more homework so they can do more hands-on activities in class (Townsend). Notes and textbook work can be saved for home, and this gives the teacher the time they need to expand upon the topics and do less "busywork" in class. In addition, a vast majority of teachers only assign homework that will benefit the student in the future (Townsend). The teachers have to grade the homework so they would not assign it for no reason.
