Help with the subject of a sentence.

I am having trouble spotting the subject in a sentence, especially when the subject is not a noun. Is there a general rule to help me spot a sentence's subject. In addition, doese the subject have to be a noun?

Can you please give us the sentence you're not sure of? The subject is not necessarily a noun. It can be a noun, as well as it can be: a pronoun: Someone wants to speak to you.

The subject is not necessarily a noun. It can be a noun, as well as it can be:

  • a pronoun:
    Someone wants to speak to you.

  • an infinitive:
    To swim is pleasant.

  • a gerund:
    Smoking is not allowed here.

  • a numeral:
    Three
