I'm trying to avoid worthy sentence and make is easy understandable.

"there was conducted monitoring of movements of cracks within the masonry. "

Would you have any advise on how to "easy" the construction of this sentence?

- My main problem is the : " There was conducted ". I want to simplify the idea that "monitoring" was carried out by workers during period of time.
