Dear Users,
May I ask you for your assistance? I'd like to ask if the highlighted parts are grammatically correct. Especially the first wouldn't be fair either feels like it could be changed into wouldn't have been fair either. Also, I don't know if it's OK to add as I'm sure you understand after a comma. Finally, I don't know if thus can be used after a comma.
I decided to excuse you from two assignments that you missed, but for one of them I had to reduce your score as excusing you from all of them wouldn't be fair either, as I'm sure you understand. Therefore, your overall grade has been affected, but not to the extent it would have been if I had given you 3 M's. I think that you participate well in the class, thus I don't want to degrade you from B to C.

I prefer 'wouldn't have been fair either'. It's fine to add 'as I'm sure you understand' after a comma. I would change 'thus' to 'so' and 'degrade' to 'downgrade'.
