Task 1:

The graph below gives information about international tourist arrivals in five countries.

The graph depicts the popularity of five countries as destinations for international tourists from 1995 to 2010. Overall, the number of tourists to most countries increased every year, with the USA remained at the top of the list.

At the beginning of the period, Egypt and Brazil shared roughly the same number of tourists at about 10 million, while Malaysia and France stood at 20 and 30 million respectively. The USA saw the most tourists that year with 70 million, more than double than that of France.

The next 15 years saw the staggering increase in international tourists to France, as its figure tripled to around 90 million, sharing the first place with the USA. Malaysia’s figure also reached its highest peak in the period at over 40 million, while that of Egypt and Brazil rose slightly to about 20 million.

The internet is a great source of information and has opened up opportunities for people to learn all over the world.

Is all information reliable on the internet?

What could be done to control information online?

For the past 50 years or so, owing to the invention of the internet, mankind has been able to exchange information in a way our ancestor could never imagine. At the present time, this technology still has room for improvement as one of its biggest problems, in my opinion, is the reliability of the information found on the internet, and how we can control them.

Regarding the authencity of online data, the past years have seen a significant increase in the number of crimes involving internet scams and false information, with the elderly being their primary targets. This trend of increasing false data can also be observed via social networking sites, as this media has become our new source of information. For example, social networks were one of many means to spread inaccurate data about vaccination and wearing masks, posing a threat to the medical system of many countries.

Despite the aforemention unreliability of some information, there is a variety of ways to control what we read online. One approach to this is to advocate authentic news sites. As people are well-awared of the true information, they will be able to evaluate the situations themselves and be less likely to spread incorrect ones. At the same time, governments must work closely with the major networking sites to identify the source of the false data while establishing their own department against cyber crimes.

In conclusion, the internet is not a reliable way to search for information, and it will takes some time for mankind to develop a strategy that eliminates misinformation completely.
