Another thing I realised was that even though I had only known these
people for three weeks, I had got really close to them.
Can you say the part in bold in other way? I don't quite get it.
Does it mean that he got closer to them?

Dominik I had got really close to them. ~ I had become very good friends with them. When talking of feelings between people, "close" implies intimacy.
