Got promoted this week, need to give thanks!!

00I received a Promotion this week. The best part about it was, I was not expecting one. Not for another year atleast! Now my dilemma is whether I should send an e-mail or a Thank you Letter to my Manager. Either way I feel I should acknowledge the promotion some how.
