I'm not sure what the flying saucer story has to do with the cousin. "This isn't about your cousin" definitely means that her refusal has nothing to do with the cousin, yes. Is she refusing to write a story about her cousin and offering to write another one about flying saucers? Is the cousin refusing to write something and offering an excuse about flying saucers?
