'for' - Which tense should I use?
Leong was later admitted into the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) where she stayed for 18 days.
I always think that the present perfect tense should be used when 'for' is used.
Is it correct to say:
Leong was later admitted into the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) where she has stayed for 18 days.

The "for" does not affect the tense you should use. she will stay for 18 days. she is staying for 18 days.

In your post, your second example makes the most sense if she is still in the institute, and the first example makes more sense if she has already been released.
