I have been trying to figure out the difference of the following sentences. Would you take a look at them?
1. Think of some questions that will help focus the discussion. 2. Think of some questions that will help focus on the discussion.
I was guessing #1 may mean to find out some ways to focus the discussion on the topic, which means can have more consistence in the discussion, while #2 may mean to find out some ways by which we can make the people involved or the listener focus on the discussion. Otherwise, don't they have much difference? Would you teach me what their difference is?
Many thanks in advance.

Oh, I think your interpretations are pretty good.
