Hi I may be wrong, but I think the first line is 'I was a quick wit boy'. To be quick-witted is to be clever - quick to work things out I think the writer then goes on to say that, later on, he had to choose whether to change his way of life and he didn't like that. It was like having to swallow an unpleasant dose of medicine - big pill going down That's my interpretation Dave
