feeling shy

1) He is a shy person. (<----- this is correct, right?!)

2) He feels shy in front of a crowd.

Can "shy" be used to describe feeling? The second sentence seems strange. What word(s) can be used to replace "shy" in the second sentence?? Thanks a million!!
