I've just had the following email exchange:

Dear Mr. Doe,
.........
Best regards,
Gosha Lastname

Cheers,
John Doe

Is this an invitation to use first names in the future emails, or should I stick to "Dear Mr. Doe"?

Thanks for your reply. The problem is exactly that I cannot figure out our relative status: "Mr Doe" is the manager of a (not terribly formal) public organization, to which I have no connection, and we are discussing questions related to this organization.
